To the Garden

JMJ

MY BELOVED has gone to the garden
singing hymns sadness
in darkness weeping
and he falls
and he cries out
and I run from him
Bleeding sweat
Another kisses him
Taking him away

My beloved has gone to the garden
Seeing him hanging
between the trees
and he gasps
and he cries out
and I dare not go to him
strange fruit
hanging
Another pierces him
and goes away

My beloved has gone to the garden
A stranger with him
sings prayers
And he wraps him
and he kisses him
and I would go to him
if I could
Laying there
the darkness
Comes in light
